Bracey’s new works pretty much use the same materials that cuneiform did in the Bronze Age, but in this series its the age of love and despair. In Untitled (2022), the artist writes ‘My Heart Blows up in the Bin’, and in another untitled work, its just the word ‘Lonely’.
The former text is a reference to the artists first attempt at a home firing. A load of dried clay works including a huge heart were placed carefully into what could be described as a 60s NY style metal street bun, which was then filled with sawdust, leaves and wood. During the firing process, Flo’s heart literally blew up in the bin destroying all the other ceramic works with it.
Its hard to say whether the works are clay pieces with text on or whether theyre words carved out of clay. Bookmark (2022), is the word Lucozade. The piece is the size of the letters themselves, as id there is nothing more than the word the word itself, which has jumped off the bottle and become an object.
